Since the advent of NFL Sunday Ticket on satellite services, I have wanted to make the switch from cable. Being a fan of a team not in my local area, I am only able to watch my team when they're televised nationally. In a good season that may be up to five times a year, but sometimes as little as twice. I had heard some bad things about Satellite - it is hard to get reception in stormy weather and you cannot get local channels - I stayed away. There also was the cost factor which at the time was more than cable because I was only getting basic.
And then I had kids. At first, this blessed event was even more of a reason to stick with cable. Cable had just begun digital service, which helped since my wife and I often fell asleep on the couch before the ending of any PPV flick. We could pick it up at our own pace now.
I thought I would be able to bond with my son over football, but it never took. For some reason he would always want to watch Thomas the Tank Engine during NFL broadcasts. A buddy of mine came by to watch the Cowboys one weekend and was completely mortified when it was turned off with five minutes to go. Harold the Helicopter saved Toby the Tram Engine from going over the waterfall though, which was a real nail biter. On Sundays I never receive visitors. NFL Sunday Ticket was never gonna happen.
